ABOUT 'MIES VAN DER ROHE FOUNDATION'

The Mies van der Rohe Foundation was established in 1983 by the City of Barcelona, Spain, to re-construct the German Pavilion of the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition. The Pavilion was designed by the architect Mies van der Rohe, and was one of the world's most celebrated twentieth century buildings. The present Pavilion, which has been meticulously re-constructed following the original plans, is open to the public. In addition to conserving and disseminating knowledge of the Barcelona Pavilion, the Foundation promotes awareness of and debate about contemporary architecture and urban planning. This is done through awards, conferences, exhibitions, and workshops.

The section on the Pavilion contains an article about the Barcelona Pavilion, with description of the materials, the Georg Kolbe sculpture, and Mies van der Rohe's famous Barcelona Chair, which was designed for the Pavilion.
