Neighbours admired their Adirondack chairs, and this led them to start the business in 1997. Since they they have built many hundreds of Adirondack chairs and settees.



The three main timbers used by Adirondack Outdoors are, in order of popularity: Oak, Iroko, and Western Red Cedar. There is no need to treat these timbers, as they are all naturally durable. Customers may decide, purely for appearance, to apply a garden furniture oil.

 

The edge of every board on the Classic and Florida Adirondack chairs is rounded over, which makes the Adirondack chairs more comfortable, and also avoids splinters developing as the wood ages. Stainless steel screws and fittings are used, with most of the screws being hidden under timber plugs matching the timber of the chair. Adirondack Outdoors also offers a cheaper Basic Adirondack Chair; this is available only in Western Red Cedar, and the edges of the boards are not rounded over. Chairs may also be supplied painted in colours of the customer's choice.
