ABOUT 'ANDY ENGLISH'
Andy English is a wood engraver specialising in bookplates. He is based at 92 Cannon Street, Little Downham, Ely, Cambridgeshire CB6 2SS, England. He was born in the Fenland region, where he still lives, and whose wildlife inspires much of his work. He says that his work is unashamedly rural, autobiographical, and traditional. He has tried many types of printmaking, but it was when he first picked up a graver and engraved on the end grain of a block of wood, that he felt he was remembering a process rather than learning it. He draws on the tradition of famous engravers, but also on the unsung workers who interpreted drawings to illustrate Victorian books and journals.
