The business was started in 1985 by Guy Watson on three acres of land on the Watson family farm in Staverton, South Devon. It s now part of the South Devon Organic Producer Group, a co-operative of 13 family run farms. The land stretches from the edge of Dartmoor down to the coast, where the warm sea air provides protection to enable winter crops to be grown.

Riverford supplies seven types of box: Large, Medium, Small, Mini, Summer Box, Fruit & Veg, and Fruit & Salad. Each of these can be ordered online. A typical Large box will include: Courgettes, Onions, Bunched Carrots, New Potatos, Mushrooms, True Spinach, French Beans, Green Cabbage, Bunched Turnips, Batavia, Mini Cucumber, and Vine Tomatoes. The Riverford website also has a section of recipes, covering: Drinks, Soups, Vegetarian Main Courses, Main Courses, Salads, Desserts, and Sauces.

 

Riverford is linked with two similar operations, each with its own regional website. River Nene Organic Vegetables delivers in east and central England. River Swale Organic Vegetables delivers in north east of England.
