ABOUT 'BROOMHILL'

 

The Broomhill website is published by the Broomhill Art Hotel, at Muddiford Road, Barnstaple, Devon EX31 4EX, England. Situated two miles from Barnstaple, the Broomhill Art Hotel is set in a valley in North Devon, surrounded by hundreds of acres of woodland and bounded by its own stream. 300 sculptures by 60 sculptures are placed in 10 acres of garden. There is a restaurant, shop, and hotel. The hotel is a late Victorian building with five rooms and an artist's 'garret' room. It is suitable for small conferences, and there are Jazz Nights.



The Broomhill Art Hotel was founded in 1997 by a Dutch husband and wife team, Rinus and Aniet van der Sande. Originally running a bakery business in the southern Netherlands, Rinus and Aniet developed an interest in art and began to develop artists' studios and a gallery in buildings adjacent to their home. Introduced to Cornwall and Devon by an artist friend, they moved to Barnstaple when they discovered Broomhill, then a run down hotel, and decided to transform it into an art hotel. They believed its gardens would provide an ideal sculpture park, and its ballroom would make a good gallery. All came true.

 

The Broomhill website is organised into the following main sections: Sculpture Garden, Gallery, Shop, Hotel, Conferences, Weddings, Restaurant, Jazz, Special Events, Information Centre, Finding Us, E-news, and Artists.

 

There are two online catalogues of sculpture for sale: Smaller Sculptures, and Outdoor Sculptures. Each catalogue features the work of tens of sculptors, with colour images of each work.
