ABOUT 'SHAPE WALKS'
The
Shape Walks website is
an interactive illustrated guide to the modern and historic architecture of
Cambridge, England. It was funded by Shape East, the Government-backed centre
for architecture and the environment in the East of England. The website was
devised, written, and photographed by Stride Design in association with the
University of Cambridge Department of Architecture. Stride Design, based in
Cambridge, produces websites and multimedia projects in architecture, heritage,
and the visual arts. It specialises in dynamic map-making techniques.
The Shape Walks website is organised into five main sections: Explore our
Interactive Maps, Look at Buildings in Microscopic Detail, Preview your Chosen
Walk, Plan your Tour or Day Trip, and Print your Map and Take to the Streets!
There are six walks: Cambridge Contemporary Architecture, Historic Highlights,
Cambridge Green Spaces, Victorian Cambridge, Clocks & Sundials, and Tudor
Cambridge. Each walk has a map, with key points of interest being described in
articles containing sets of specially taken high resolution photographs.
There are also two Audio Walks, which are downloadable as MP3 Podcasts. They are
on: Change in the City, and Cambridge Past & Present.
