The DurhamCathedral.co.uk website is the official website of Durham Cathedral, Durham, England. Begun in 1093, to house the shrine of St.Cuthbert, Durham Cathedral is one of the masterpieces of Romanesque or Norman architecture. The Cathedral is built on a peninsula of land made by a loop in the River Wear, and the west end of the Cathedral towers over a steep gorge down to the river.
