field hockey

We have selected International Hockey Federation as the world's very best website on Field Hockey.

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) which is based in Lausanne, Switzerland, is the international governing body for the sport of field hockey. The main sections of the IHF website are: News, FIH, Calendar, Events & Results, Rules, Event Management, Photo Gallery, WorldHockey TV, Athletes, Development, Coaching, Umpires, Publications, Pitches & Equipment, Medical, and Anti-Doping.

The FIH section contains an article on the history of field hockey. A crude form of hockey was played about 4,000 years ago in Egypt, and in Ethiopia around 1,000 BC. Forms of hockey were also played by the Romans and Greeks, and by the Aztec Indians in South America. The modern game of hockey evolved in England in the eighteenth century.

The Photo Gallery contains sets of photographs from all IHF events, dating back to 2002. The main publications of the FIH are the WorldHockey Online Magazine, WorldHockey Highlights (a biennial review of the IHF's strategies, activities and achievements), and Rules Books.
