ABOUT 'LIBERTY, EQUALITY, FRATERNITY'
The
Liberty, Equality, Fraternity
website is a collaboration of the Center for History and New Media at George
Mason University and the American Social History Project at City University of
New York. It was funded by grants from the Florence Gould Foundation and the
National Endowment for the Humanities. The website contains more than 300
primary documents, 250 images, 13 songs, 13 maps, a French Revolution timeline,
a French Revolution glossary, and 12 topical essays.
The Essays are intended to provide general introduction to the more detailed
source material. Their titles include: Social Causes of the Revolution, Monarchy
Embattled, The Enlightenment and Human Rights, Paris and the Politics of
Rebellion, Women and the French Revolution, The Monarch Falls, and War, Terror
and Resistance.
There are icons in the margin of each essay. By clicking on these the user can
reach relevant primary source documents, including images, texts, maps, and
songs.
