ABOUT 'JACKSONPOLLOCK.ORG'
The
JacksonPollock.org website
is most unusual. It opens as a single blank white page, with no introduction,
explanatory text, navigation, or credits. There are no instructions, but by moving and
clicking the cursor the user can create a unique Pollock-like painting on the
screen.
The website is the work of Miltos Manetas, who was born in Athens, Greece, and
divides his time between Los Angeles and Paris. He produces oil paintings of
computer hardward, wires, and cables, and has exhibited vibracolour prints which
are generated by computer. He has adopted the name NEEN for his art movement.
Jackson Pollock was an American painter who lived from 1912 until his death in a
car accident near his Long Island home in 1956. He was a major force in the
abstract expressionist movement. In November 2006 Jackson Pollock's painting
'No.5 1948' became the world's most expensive painting when it was sold at
auction for $140 million.
