ABOUT 'PEAKWARE WORLD MOUNTAIN ENCYCLOPEDIA'
The
Peakware World Mountain Encyclopedia website
is a comprehensive resource on mountains and mountaineering published by
Interactive Outdoors Inc of Aspen, Colorado, USA. The website is organized into
the following main sections: Search, All Peaks, All Ranges, Add-a-Peak, Gear
Store, Book Store, Summit Logs, Photos, Cams, and Highest.
The database contains over 2500 peaks. For each peak there is at least one high
resolution photograph, a narrative description including climbing difficulty and
tips, and data on height, latitude, longitude, location, year first climbed,
convenient center, and nearest airport. In some cases there are many high
resolution photographs; for example the article on the Matterhorn has 21
photographs.
There is a geographical search facility, where users can zoom into areas within
a map of the world. The locations of peaks are shown with markers, which can be
clicked on to get the article on the peak. There is also a Photo Gallery with
more than 1700 photographs, and a section with links to five live mountain
webcams.
