ABOUT 'OCEANS ALIVE!'
The
Oceans Alive! website is
published by the Museum of Science, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. It is organized
into five main sections: The Water Planet, Oceans in Motion, Life in the Sea,
Scientist at Sea, and Resources.
The Water Planet is a section explaining that 71% of the Earth's surface is
water. It contains articles on: Physical Features of the Ocean, The Changing
Oceans, The Water Cycle, and Ocean Profiles. Ocean Profiles includes quick facts
on each ocean; for example, the Pacific Ocean makes up 48% of all the worlds
oceans in terms of area, and is 36,200 deep at its deepest point in the Mariana
Trench, enabling it to swallow Mount Everest with ease. The Water Cycle section
includes do-it-yourself instructions for making a model of the water cycle out
of two half gallon jars, a rock, masking tape, and food coloring. The Oceans in
Motion section includes articles on: Ocean Currents, Wind & Waves, and the Ebbs
& Flows of the Sea. The Scientist at Sea section contains articles on Underwater
