ABOUT SCIENCEMASTER
ScienceMaster is a website formed in 1997 with the aim of stimulating an interest in science among young people. It provides articles, sound clips of audio interviews, and images from the NASA and USGS archives.
ScienceMaster contains an illustrated section on rock collecting, the text of which is provided by the US Geological Survey. The main topics covered are: Rocks Tell the Story of the Earth, Types of Rocks (igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic), Starting a Collection, Identifying Rocks, Where to Find Rocks, Collecting Equipment, Housing and Enlarging a Collection, and Hints for Rock Collectors.
Hints for Rock Collectors include the need to label specimens as they are collected, trimming of rocks, asking permission to collect rocks on private property, and not collecting rocks in national parks or monuments or State parks.
