ABOUT 'WHTOUR'

The WHTour website is a non-profit organization which documents World Heritage Sites using 360 degree panoramic photography. All panographies are shot, assembled, and uploaded by Tito Dupret from Belgium and Bijuan Chen from China, who are husband and wife. Financial supporters include the J.M.Kaplan Fund of New York.

World Heritage Sites are named and listed by the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO. The programme aims to catalogue, name, and conserve sites of outstanding cultural or natural importance to the common heritage of mankind. The Programme commenced in 1972; to date over 180 State Parties have ratified the convention, and more than 800 World Heritage Sites have been designated.

The WHTour website has so far documented 161 (19%) of the 830 registered World Heritage Sites, and 48 off-list sites, with a total of 1100 panographies. Countries covered so far include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Belgium, Canada, China, Cambodia, Egypt, France, Germany, Great Britain, India, and Indonesia.

For each World Heritage Site covered, there is one or more spectacular high definition 360 degree panoramic images, which can be panned horizontally and and vertically using the cursor. Users can also zoom in and out. There are also links for each site to the article at the UNESCO website describing that site.
